The Principal and Board of Management of Stonepark National School wish to commission an interior art feature to celebrate the construction of an extension to Stonepark NS. The piece will be designed and executed to be displayed on the wall of an interior stairwell and possibly the ceiling of the same space. {See accompanying photographs and structural drawings in downloads section below.}
The title of the project is “Gort na Cloiche” translated as the meadow of stones.
This should be reflective of the progression from a two-teacher school to a fifteen teacher school over 125 years.
This project should have a beginning point; middle point; end-point; dimension.
The Commissioning body would appreciate the artist considering the local topography of the area – limestone rock.
Budget
€84,950
Stonepark National School reserves the right not to proceed with any submissions received.

Application Details
All submissions must contain the following details:
- A typed proposal not exceeding 500 words outlining ideas and proposals for the project.
- Sufficient illustrations, models or maquettes for the purpose of communicating scale, proportion, materials, location and aesthetic appearance of the realised proposal. (Bear in mind that this is a single stage commissioning process therefore the more assistance the Adjudication Panel receive in visualising the developed image the stronger the application.)
- Satisfactory evidence of safety, suitability and maintenance requirements, as appropriate.
- Details of physical practicalities of the project, timescale for completion and budget breakdown.
- Up to date curriculum vitae.
- Examples of previous work on CD or DVD only. You may also give details of web sites and Facebook or published materials where examples of your work may be seen.
- Stamped addressed envelope for return of written proposals.
- Completed and signed Application Form
The Successful Candidate will Provide:
- Public Liability Insurance cover of €6.5 million with an indemnity to principal extension. o b.
- Employers Liability Cover of €13 million
- The artwork must comply with Health and Safety standards. The successful submission will be subject to Health and Safety checks.
- The appointed artist will have to supply an up to date tax clearance certificate prior to signing of contract and for the duration of the commission.
- Applicants should note that all commissions awarded are VAT inclusive, are included in their budget.
- Child and Vulnerable Adults Protection: Selected artists will be required to follow national policy with regard to commissions involving interaction with children, young people and, vulnerable adults and where applicable undergo training in this area, as per national requirement
Stonepark N. S. does not have the physical or secured space for the safe storage of two or three dimensional objects submitted therefore all objects must be retrieved by the artist within ten working days of the notification of the final decision of the adjudicating panel.
Selection Panel
The Selection Panel will consist of two / three members of the schools Public Art Working Group and two Professional Artists as well as the County Arts Officer and Project Architect.
The following criteria will help to inform the final decision of the Adjudication Panel –
- The originality and quality of the idea.
- The excellence of track record (or potential) of the commissioned artist.
- Demonstrated understanding of the physical, social and cultural context of the work.
- Value for money.
- Clarity of purpose and planned impact of the proposed piece.
