Longford Schools Photography Programme is Irelands largest and longest running schools photography programme. It is organised and funded by Longford County Council Arts Office and is operated in partnership with all Longford secondary schools.
Resources
The programme is facilitated by local photographer Shelley Corcoran. Shelley is a BA Fine Art [Photography] graduate from Dun Laoghaire Institute of Arts, Design and Technology.
She has established her own practice in Longford, she works with the local media and has extensive teaching experience.
Schools Involved
Eight schools are actively involved in the programme in Longford and one in County Westmeath. The participating schools are: St. Mel’s College, Templemichael College, Meán Scoil Mhuire, Ballymahon Mercy, Ballymahon VS, Cnoc Mhuire Granard, Moyne Community School and CBS Mullingar
Each school schedules a two hour class once a week and schools often collaborate in competition and on projects such as publications and field-trips to national photographic facilities.
A unique dimension of our Schools Photographic Programme is that the students in the various schools get together each year to produce a publication of original work that usually addresses current social issues affecting today’s young people. The students than arrange to sell their publication and all of the proceeds are donated to an appropriate local charity or support organisation.
