Meeting to Establish Longford Jazz Club

Longford Jazz Club

A meeting to establish the Longford Jazz Club – for people in the region who love jazz music and would like to hear more live music locally – will be held in the Meeting Room Backstage Theatre, Longford on Tuesday 15th April at 7.30pm sharp.

It is hoped that the Longford Jazz Club will draw members from Longford, Westmeath, Roscommon, Leitrim and Cavan, people who have an interest in jazz but rarely get to hear live music, the way it was meant to be heard, in small intimate settings.

The Longford Jazz Club will organise a small annual programme of live & varied jazz sessions catering to all different tastes in jazz. In addition to live jazz sessions with the very best of contemporary Irish and visiting musicians the Club will schedule talks on various sub-genres of jazz from its origins in New Orleans Dixieland through Swing and Be-bop to Contemporary Jazz.  The programme will ultimately be based upon the interests and tastes of the Club members.

In addition to organising small live jazz events in the region the Shannonside Jazz Club will arrange subsidised trips for members to larger jazz events outside the region and discounted packages for members to jazz festivals such as the Cork, Bray, Derry or Sligo Festivals

If you are a jazz fan and you regret the absence of a live jazz music scene in the region you can actively contribute to filling this lamentable gap by coming along to the inaugural committee meeting of the Longford Jazz Club on Tuesday 15th April at 7.30pm in the Meeting Room, Backstage Theatre, Longford.

The meeting will be brief and the commitment from committee members will be very limited – so if you would like to make a real commitment to the creation of a vibrant live jazz scene in the county – come along to Tuesday evening meeting and lend a hand.

The Longford Jazz Club is supported by Longford County Arts Office. For further information contact: fkennedy@longfordcoco.ie
