Helena Grimes
Helena is an artist and illustrator native of Moyne, Co. Longford. She is currently residing in Limerick where she completed her BA (Honours) in Fine Art specialising in Printmaking & Contemporary Practice in Limerick School of Art & Design in 2014. Her work has been exhibited in numerous places nationally such as Limerick, Clare, Dublin, Wexford, Kildare and Cork as well as internationally in Eygpt, Turkey and USA.
The artist’s work is well known for the distinctive detailed linear style most commonly executed with a fine liner archival pen; she also creates etchings, drypoints, woodblocks and digital prints. She is deeply engaged with drawing as her primary medium. In her artwork, she illustrates her emotions, interactions and ideas inspired by society and culture.
The non-human form is a subject she is deeply involved with as an agency to understand human society and inner self. The animal acts as a shield and a space for her thoughts, desires and ideas on the world around her to settle. They are projected in the form of her creatures for viewers to engage with, whilst discovering their own personal narratives within the work.
Her inspirations come from society, culture, books, myths, fairytales and life itself.
