The coals
still glow
long after
the fire
has expired.
Lips pout
to blow
the kiss of life
to ash
long after tongues of flame
have claimed their claim
and dashed the stack.
A single clash
reveals a universe
rising to a darkened sky.
Stars outshine
stars that shine
and one by one
they converse
dulling one another’s verse
till all have served their time,
retreated the path
they climbed
and come to rest
with emptiness
and the warmth of decadence.
In our mind’s eye is said
the dreams which we once dreamed
and saw dance upon these lands.
